Privacy Policy

How Mikan Software handles your information — which is, deliberately, almost none of it.

Last updated 4 October 2026. This policy covers the Mikan Software applications (currently MikanMessage, Claude Usage, GPT Usage, and Mikan Pong) and the website at mikansoftware.app.

The short version

  • There are no Mikan accounts, so there is no profile of you to hold.
  • The apps contain no analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, advertising, or third‑party SDKs.
  • MikanMessage and Mikan Pong make no network connections at all.
  • Claude Usage talks only to claude.ai, with your own sign‑in, and Claude's status page. Nothing goes to Mikan Software.
  • GPT Usage talks only to OpenAI, through Codex and at chatgpt.com, with your existing Codex sign‑in. Nothing goes to Mikan Software.
  • This website sets no cookies and loads nothing from anyone else — no fonts, scripts, or trackers.
  • Nothing is ever sold, rented, or handed to advertisers or data brokers.

Who is responsible

Mikan Software is run by Scott Willsey.

What the applications send

MikanMessage

Nothing. MikanMessage receives the text, position, and duration you set in a Shortcuts action, draws it on your screen, and forgets it. It makes no network connections — no update check, no license check, nothing. The messages you display are not logged or stored.

You don't have to take my word for it: point a network monitor such as Little Snitch at the app and watch what it does.

Claude Usage

Claude Usage shows your claude.ai usage limits, so it has to ask claude.ai for them. It connects to two places, both run by Anthropic, and nowhere else:

  • claude.ai, using your own claude.ai session, to read the same session, weekly, per‑model, and extra‑usage numbers that claude.ai's usage page shows. It asks every couple of minutes, or at the interval you choose in Settings.
  • status.claude.com, to show whether Claude is having an outage.

It makes no requests to Claude models, and sends nothing to Mikan Software — there is no Mikan server for it to send to. Anthropic's own privacy policy covers what claude.ai and its status page do with those requests.

Your sign‑in. The sign‑in window shows claude.ai's own login page, in a private browsing store that's thrown away when the window closes; what that page loads is up to claude.ai. Once you're signed in, the app keeps your claude.ai session cookies only in its own Keychain item, “Claude Usage — claude.ai session”. You can paste a session key instead, which is stored the same way. Signing out deletes it.

What stays on your Mac. For the Models tab, the app reads Claude Code's local logs in ~/.claude/projects, read‑only, to count usage by model; nothing from them leaves your Mac. It never reads Claude Code's credentials. It keeps up to 90 days of usage history in ~/Library/Application Support/Claude Usage/, and, only if you turn on the statusline option, writes your current numbers to ~/.cache/claude-usage/usage.json for a statusline to read. It never writes into ~/.claude itself; the optional Claude desktop app plugin is installed by Claude Code's own claude plugin command, and only when you press Install.

GPT Usage

GPT Usage shows your ChatGPT plan's Codex limits, so it has to ask OpenAI for them. It doesn't sign in to anything itself; it uses the sign‑in you already have in Codex, OpenAI's coding agent, and reaches OpenAI in two ways, and no others:

  • Through Codex. It starts your own Codex program's local app server and asks it, over a private pipe, for your account type, your current limits and reset times, and the list of models. Codex then asks OpenAI, with your Codex sign‑in, the same way it always does. GPT Usage only ever asks it for these read‑only things.
  • chatgpt.com, directly, for the History and Models tabs: one request for the last 30 days of your account's activity by model, to the same endpoint ChatGPT's own usage dashboard uses, sent with the access token from your Codex sign‑in. The request keeps no cookies and refuses redirects, so the token can't be passed on anywhere else.

It asks every couple of minutes, or at the interval you choose in Settings. It sends no requests to models, never uses an earned reset or buys credits, and sends nothing to Mikan Software. OpenAI's own privacy policy covers what OpenAI does with those requests.

Your sign‑in. When it needs the access token and account ID, GPT Usage reads them from Codex's auth.json (in ~/.codex, or wherever CODEX_HOME points), read‑only, and holds them only in memory. It never copies them into its own settings, logs, or history, and never writes to Codex's files. Signing in and out stays with Codex.

What stays on your Mac. Your activity history is kept in memory only, never saved to disk. The app saves its settings and a note of which resets it has already announced, so it doesn't notify you twice. It doesn't read your Codex conversations.

Mikan Pong

Nothing. Mikan Pong makes no network connections. The only thing it saves is your best rally, in its own preferences on your Mac.

Future apps and versions

If a Mikan app starts sending anything it doesn't today — for example, to check for updates or validate a licence — this page will be updated, before that version ships, to say exactly what it sends, where, and why.

What the website collects

There is no analytics service on this site. No Google Analytics, no tag manager, no pixels, no cookies, and no third‑party fonts, scripts, or images — every asset is served from this domain.

Like essentially every web server, ours keeps standard access logs: the IP address, the time, the page or file requested, the response status, and the User‑Agent string your browser sends. They are used only to keep the site working and secure.

Email you send

If you write for support or anything else, the correspondence is kept so the conversation makes sense over time — and no longer than it stays useful. It isn't added to any mailing list or used for anything other than answering you.

Who else is involved

Keeping this list short is a deliberate goal. In full:

  • The web host, which runs the server that stores this site, its downloads, and its access logs.
  • GitHub, if you follow a link to source code or releases there. GitHub's own privacy policy applies on GitHub.
  • Anthropic, but only between you and them: if you use Claude Usage, it talks to claude.ai and status.claude.com on your behalf, as described above. Nothing about you passes through Mikan Software on the way.
  • OpenAI, likewise only between you and them: if you use GPT Usage, it reaches OpenAI through Codex and at chatgpt.com, as described above.

Nobody else receives your information. It is never sold, rented, or disclosed to advertisers, data brokers, or analytics companies, and would be disclosed only if the law genuinely compelled it.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask for a copy of what I hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or ask for it to stop being used, and you'll get an answer within 30 days. For most people, the honest answer to “what do you hold about me?” is nothing at all, because you never gave me anything.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date at the top. A change that means an app sends something it didn't before will be stated on that app's page too.
